A Letter to Neale

Reader Question:

Dear Neale...Thank you for penning the CWG books. Their divine wisdom is clear. Tell me something. You and Jesus believe in the power of "when two or more are gathered in My Name." This is indeed powerful, but so is individual prayer. Jesus also said that when you want to pray, go into your room and shut the door rather than flaunt it praying in front of others. Have you actually been told whether or not the Goddess of Love, who you call "God," prefers people to pray in groups or alone?

Of course, the like-minded can get together, but isn't praying a way of getting intimate with the Goddess of Love, and wouldn't that be easier if She gets us alone, as She has done with you?

The CWG books challenged me to be the highest conception of who I am. It is to treat every being as love, to treat as love each Goddess of Love in the heart of every one of us. Every rock, plant and animal is love. The being in the heart of every one of us is pure love, yet we fear to be who we really are. Therefore, it is by loving each other as love that we encourage each other to come home to who we really are.

Martyn, Leederville, West Australia.

Neale Responds

Dear Martyn,

Couldn't agree with you more on that last part. About praying alone or in a group, however, I don't think God/Goddess listens "more closely" if we pray one way rather than another. I don't see Deity "favoring" any particular environment, ritual, language, gesture, or costume.

You asked me whether I have been told whether God "prefers people to pray in groups or alone." What I have been told, Martyn, is that God has no preferences about anything.

Some churches say you must make the Sign of the Cross with your right hand, some say no, it's with your left. Some religions say there is no need to make a Sign of the Cross at all, and some say you must prostrate yourself three times on a carpet, facing the East. Some say only men can be on one side of the Wailing Wall, because women are unclean. Some say only men can be priests, because women are unclean. There are a hundred different versions of what pleases God and what upsets God. None of them have anything to do with ultimate truth.

You want to know the truth about the best way to get close to God/Goddess? Simply want to. Truly. Purely. Honestly. Want to.

You think God cares whether you are alone in your room or in Yankee Stadium?

Nope.

Hugs,
